In an era where employment endurance often means staying with a company for only a year or two, I have to say that I am well outside the mould as I have been working at Methven Professionals since 1972.  In fact it's no secret that I come from a noble family of real estate professionals with incredible staying power.



After becoming a qualified carpenter and joiner and completing National Service Training, my dad, Jim Earney, who started his real estate business in 1958, had a grand plan. On a particularly busy day in the office, he suggested that I come in and give him a hand. That was February 1972. My first sale was a house in Diana Crescent. The great thing is that the people who purchased that home from me still live locally in Mooroolbark and I still send them the company newsletters and Christmas cards.



After starting in sales, I built a solid background in residential rentals and commercial and industrial sales and leasing before taking over as managing director in 1986. From that point I began a long and fruitful business partnership with Shane Lowe. Together we opened and merged with offices in Mt Evelyn, Croydon and Lilydale. Shane Lowe retired from the business in 2010. Along the way, I also found time to be involved in numerous community initiatives one being Captain at Mooroolbark CFA for 12 years where I am also a life member.  Currently I am the President of the Mooroolbark Traders Association.



A career in real estate is time consuming. It demands a total lifestyle commitment so it is vital you have a passion for people and for the profession. When I am asked for my recipe for a successful real estate career, it is 'never give up'. I give tribute to my father Jim, who gave me the encouragement and grounding in my early years in real estate, to the unstinting support of my wife Marilyn and our sons Greg and Brent and also for the friendship and business acumen of my business partner of 28 years, Shane Lowe, our professional and hand-picked staff and most importantly the loyalty of their clients, many of whom have become firm friends. "I don't believe we sell real estate, "People buy dreams, a lifestyle and an opportunity".



One of my greatest pleasures in business is now working with my eldest son Greg who has now been part of the company in 1997 and my second son Brent who joined in 2014.  Methven Professionals is a true ‘family business’. Seeing our team constantly winning awards for outstanding sales and property management service and performance also gives huge satisfaction. The Mooroolbark team has been inducted into the Leader Newspaper Hall of Fame and we have won the Professionals Office of the Year more times than I can remember.  It has also been an honour to win the REIV Large Agency of the Year three years in a row; 2017, 2018 & 2019; a feat no other agency has been able to achieve.



What more can I say other than I am a real local person who works in real estate with a team I can "TRUST". When we are buying or selling real estate, where so much of our own personal wealth is involved, we all want to deal with somebody you can rely on and trust.
